Ghaisar
1969
Fati
is a young girl who commits suicide after being raped and becoming pregnant
by a man called Mansour Abmangol. Her older brother, Farman, tries to seek
revenge for her death by killing Mansour, but is killed by Mansour's two
brothers, Rahim and Karim.
Ghaisar is the youngest
brother in the family working in another town. On returning to his hometown
to see his fiancee, he discovers the tragedy which has befallen his family.
He decides to seek revenge. He manages to kill Karim at the public bath
and Rahim at the abattoir. While he is searching for Mansour, Ghaisar's
mother dies from a broken heart. Ghaisar finally manages to kill Mansour,
but himself is shot by the police.

The Pigeon
"Toghi"

There
is an old saying in Farsi, "if you catch a Toghi to keep, it will bring
bad omens to the members of the family".
...And that's what
happens to a very close nit family when Toghi is caught for keeps. A well
respected uncle plans to marry a young woman who lives in a far away town.
He asks his young nephew to bring the fiancee home to him. On the way back
the young people fall in love, get married, and return home with their
secret. They're both afraid to tell the truth to the family. Eventually
the uncle finds out, and to teach both his nephew and his fiancee a lesson
he starts a bloody revenge. |
The Window
"Panjereh"

In
a cheap motel, Sohrab who is in Tehran to work, meets Taraneh. She is already
pregnant by a man named Asghar. Taraneh however, is obsessed with Sohrab,
who is in love with another girl named Laylie. Asghar
encourages Taraneh to hold Sohrab responsibleas a father of the unborn
baby. Sohrab runs to the north with Laylie, but Taraneh follows him
there. This compelling story about desperate people in desperate
situations ends in an unfortunate tragedy. |
Reza Motori
1970
Reza has a job of delivering films to the cinemas. Together with his friends,
they plan a robbery. For the first part of their plan they commit themselves
to a mental hospital, with the idea that after the robbery they will return
to the hospital and hopefully mislead the police. The robbery is successful
and Reza, after hiding the money, returns to the mental hospital. A writer
who resembles Reza, is doing research at the same hospital. He has
fiancee with whom he's not very loving or close to. One day while the writer
was at the hospital, his chauffeur mistakenly takes Reza to the writer's
home. The writer's fiancee thinks the change in him is due to the fact
that he has been researching and spending time at the mental hospital,
and she likes the changes in him. |
Escape
1971
After
five years in prison for a murder he unwillingly committed because of his
love for his girlfriend, Mehri, Morteza is released. During his imprisonment
Mehri has reluctantly married a man called Usta Faraj to whom she owed
a lot of money.Morteza forces Faraj to divorce Mehri. Faraj agrees to this,
on the condition that Morteza pays off all of Mehri's outstanding debts.
Morteza accepts and tries unsuccessfully to find work. Together with a
man called Karim, they decide to steal. Finally with the stolen money,
Morteza goes to pay off Faraj. He has a plan to then escape with Mehri
and the rest of the money. However, the victim of the robbery arrives and
kills Morteza and Karim |
Daash Akol
1971
Daash Akol, a local
hero, lives with his parrot in a small house. A dying man called Haji Samad,
asks Daash Akol to become his executor. He then sees the young daughter
of Haji Samad and falls in love instantly. He believes this love
of Marjan to be sinful. He speaks off his feelings with no one, but at
home when thinking aloud, his parrot hears. Daash Akol begins to drink,
because of this unrequited love. A man by the name of Kaka Rostam who has
always lost when challenging Daash Akol, because of this absence in the
neighborhood begins to bully everyone. Marjan has a suitor and Daash Akol
as executor, and against his own wishes, arranges her wedding. Later he
meets up with Kaka Rostam who challenges him to a fight. They arrange the
fight for the following day which is a holy day. As the result of the fight
Daash Akol dies and leaves his only possession, the parrot to Marjan, which
speaks of Daash Akol's love for her and says: "Marjan, your love killed
me".

Deshneh

Movie about
simple dreams that don't always come true. Abbas the liar (Behrouz Vossoughi)
is a good hearted man who tells un harmful lies in order to get attention.
He does not mean to hurt anyone with his lies, especially Fereshteh (Foroozan).
She is an unhappy hooker with dreams of her own. She desperately needs
to run away from her vicious pimp, lead a normal life, get married to Abbas,
and live in a normal house. Abbas promises her all that but first he has
to take care of another promise which he made to a prison mate. He has
been asked to collect a chunk of money from a gang of drug dealers. The
gang has no intention of giving the money back, but Abbas the liar is a
man of his words. What follows is a very entertaining movie about broken
hearts, lost dreams, and un kept promises. |
Tangsir
1973
The
very peaceful and quite life of Shirmohammad is disturbed due to a dispute
with a local woman who is upset when her only cow was killed by Shirmohammad.
He decides to leave with his family because of this dispute. He had all
of his life's savings with four of the most influential and trustworthy
people of the town with the understanding the he would receive interest
when he gets his savings back.
When leaving he asks
for his money. However, they refuse to pay him. In order to collect his
money, Shirmohammad decides to get his gun. With the support of his fellow
townsmen, Shirmohammad kills the four men and then leaves town to join
his wife and children.

Gavaznha
1974
This story begins
with a wounded fugitive, Ghorbat. He struggles to get to the school where
he used to study with his friend, Seyed, the son of the school caretaker.
He discovers that Seyed who used to be a young man is now an addict and
working as an announcer at a play house. Seyed's wife, Fati works at the
play house as an actress. Seyed Hides Ghorbat and looks after his wound.
Ghorbat tries to encourage Seyed to get his self confidence back so he
can stand up to his overbearing landlord, and get rid of the local drug
dealer. Ghorbat would like Seyed to take the money he has been carrying
and to pass it on to his revolutionary friends. The police meanwhile have
managed to find Ghorbat's hide-out, Seyed has the opportunity to escape
unharmed but prefers to remain with his friend. The police open fire and
totally destroy the hide-out |
The Compromise
"Sazesh"

Iranian comedy on which Behrouz Vossoughi the country's movie superstar,
displays his comedic talent. Vossoughi hilariously plays a part time untalented
stage actor who becomes a part time unskilled burglar in order to come
up with money for his needy fiancee. One night, while trying to burglarize
a house, he stumbles into a secret. Our hero notices a well respected married
city politician, Mr. Khalayegh, in a hot affair with lady of the house.
. Our burglar now becomes a part time impostor as the wise cracking Dr.
Rastegar who with his common sense mentality, steals the heart of the politician's
family. What follows is a very entertaining movie that gave the Iranian
audience a rare chance to see their favorite movie star in a knockout comedy. |
The fellow Traveler
1975
Azadeh, a young broken
hearted woman runs to the north to look for her run away boyfriend. Her
father sends a young man, Ali to look for his suicidal daughter. Ali finds
Azadeh before she is about to drown herself in the sea, and brings her
back to her family. During their trip back, however a love develops which
results in a happy fairy tale like ending. |

home town looking for the woman he once loved. She, who was pregnant by
him before, is married now to a very jealous man, whom, with the help of
Zabih's son (who does not know Zabih) tries to kill Zabih before his reunion

Kandoo
"Beehive"
1975
...is about trying
to survive the dangerous game of of Tornabazi (truth or dare) on the tough
streets of Tehran. Couple of drifters, fresh from prison, wonder the harsh
streets of Tehran looking hopelessly for their uncertain future. The young
and the restless of the two (Behrouz Vossoughi) has contempt for the outside
life and wishes to get in trouble so he can go back to jail again. The
older on (Davoud Rashidi) challenges him to the game of Torna. A game in
which anything goes. The bet is for the trouble maker to walk into every
bar on a long block, order a drink, and refuse to pay (no matter what..).
The bet is heartless and the last bar seems so far away. What follows is
a very interesting movie about a lost soul in a city with no compassion
and a game that ends up deadly. |
The Honeymoon

A young man from a
poor family is living with a very rich family. He falls in love with the
beautiful daughter of the family, but the father does not approve of this
love relationship. The young lovers leave the family and try to make it
on their own without the help of her rich parents. |
Soote Delan
1977
Majid is a mentally
handicapped man living with his mother and stepbrother. He has a job working
in a party rental shop for Habib. Majid falls in love with the girl who
sells tickets at the cinema.
Apparently Habib never
married because of his brother's handicap.. A traditional doctor suggests
to Habib that he should find Majid a sex partner. They find a prostitute
for this purpose. When the prostitute and Majid met, they fall in love,
and they get married against Habib's wishes. Although Majid was starting
to get better due to his new life, Habib tells him about his wife's past,
causing Majid to regress. Habib regretting his words, takes his brother
to a wholly place hoping for a miracle bu Majid dies en route. |
